About the symposium

The 15th International Symposium on Metal-Hydrogen Systems" (MH2016), the world largest conference on hydrogen in materials, will take place from 7. - 12. August 2016 in Interlaken, Switzerland. Abstract submission starts at at 1. February 2016.

Welcome

It is a great pleasure to welcome you from 7. – 12. August 2016 in Interlaken, Switzerland to MH2016, exactly 20 years after the last MH-conference, MH1996, where the first catalyzed hydrogen sorption in alanates was presented by B. Bogdanovic and revolutionized the research on hydrogen storage materials.

The conference location in the center of Interlaken (between two lakes) a beautiful town in the middle of Switzerland. The building where the conference takes place is a former casino with a particular architecture. Interlaken is an old town, mentioned already in the year 1133 and it is one of the oldest tourist resorts of Switzerland. Toward south it is on an altitude of 570 m on the foot of the famos mountains Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. In the beautiful surrounding of the Swiss alps Interlaken offers a perfect environment for a stimulating scientific conference and plenty of nice places to visit for leisure activities. The river Aare and the two lakes invite you to take a refreshing bath in the clean water from the mountains.

Switzerland has a long tradition in the production and application of hydrogen for chemistry e.g. ammonia synthesis and the production of synthetic sapphire. Furthermore, after the 2nd World War industrial alkaline electrolyzer were developed in Switzerland and produced hydrogen from renewable energy (hydropower). It is an ideal surrounding for our conference on Metal-Hydrogen Systems – Fundamentals and Applications, following the very successful MH2014 held in Manchester, Great Britain in the cradle of industrialization. We will be presenting the latest advances in both the fundamental science of metal-hydrogen systems and in their applications in a variety of areas – in particular hydrogen storage systems for use with fuel cell propulsion as is being adopted in transportation applications.

We are arranging a memorable social program with a visit of the Jungfrau Joch on 3680 m and a walk on the glacier or alternatively a boat trip on the lake of Thun for those who prefer to stay at low altitude close to the water.

On behalf of the organizing committee, we very much look forward to welcoming you to Interlaken in August 2016.

Chair, MH2016 Organising Committee

Dr. Michael Hirscher,
Vice-Chair, MH2016 Organising Committee
